Digressions: My Life in 500 Words or Less

Christmas 2022 has been over for a month and a half, but remnants of it lingered in our home until last weekend. (Yeah, that’s how we roll.) As we boxed up the ornaments of our largest tree, we noted their significance.

As I am sure is the case with many people, we have ornaments with special meanings: those in memory of loved ones, those handed down from family, those denoting special occasions. Among those are ornaments representing a tradition Rebecca and I have of giving our Christmas dinner a global flavor. We call it our Global Christmas Dinner.

You see, each year Rebecca and I choose a different country to represent at our Christmas dinner. We find authentic, traditional recipes

from that country, and the entire meal is based on that chosen place, typically an entrée, side dish and dessert.

After the first couple of Global Christmas Dinners, my younger sister, Lisa, began sending us ornaments to commemorate the occasion. Some ornaments have Santa Claus figures dressed and accessorized in styles from the specific countries; some are ornaments made by residents of the country; some just have visual representations of the country. When Lisa started sending these ornaments, Rebecca went back and found ornaments from previous Global Christmas Dinners to make the collection complete.

Christmas 2022 represented a benchmark. It

was the 10th anniversary of our Global Christmas Dinner.

So, before we put away our Global Christmas Dinner ornaments, I took photos of each. The 10th anniversary deserves acknowledgement. It represents 10 years of special Christmas dinners I’ve shared with Rebecca, 10 years of collaboration and partnership; 10 years of joy.

Such memories are priceless.
