Digressions: My Life in 500 Words or Less

Updated: Jan 26, 2023

"Maybe we just started to notice them because we were ready to see that beauty. Maybe we took them for granted ..."

I live in a house of rainbows.

At least I like to think so. Rebecca does, too.

We think of it that way because during any given day, refracted sunlight creates vibrant spectrums throughout our home. These beautiful displays of color appear for a few fleeting minutes and vanish without warning.

The rainbows have caught our attention only in the past year or so but have certainly been a part of our interior landscape as long as we’ve lived here. We’ve made no changes to the windows or features of our home that produce the rainbows.

Maybe we just started to notice them because we were ready to see that beauty. Maybe we took them for granted to the point of ignoring them.

Whatever the reason, we have come to appreciate these rainbows every time we see them. They brighten our walls, doors, mirrors, floors and various spaces in our home. They sometimes land on us unexpectedly.

In some ways I feel the rainbows reflect our happiness. We have so much to be thankful for, the most important of which is the fact we have each other. We also are fortunate to have so many loved ones in our lives. Our days are often filled with good things, and we have all we truly need.

Like the rainbows in our home, we know our lives are bound to cover a spectrum of experiences. But, like those rainbows, we recognize it takes all the colors of the spectrum to create such beauty.

And that beauty should not be taken for granted.
